The Mounted Regiment—Five companies of this regiment met at the Great Crossings on Sunday last; and marched from thence for the North-Western Army on the same day. The balance of the companies were to rendezvous at Newport on the 17th inst.
It is with pleasure we state, that the patriotism of the people had augmented the companies that rendezvoused at the Crossing to nearly double their original number. The company from Mercer, commanded by Capt. M'Afee was above 150 strong; and none of the other companies were much inferior. The regiment is not short of 1200 men.
We have heard in the course of the present week, from various parts of the state, and have much pleasure in stating, that the spirit of volunteering is very great. There can be no doubt, but that 3 or 4000 Mounted men will take the field with his Excellency Governor Shelby. Fayette, itself, will turn out three or four complete companies. In this last appeal to the citizens of Kentucky, her patriotism and character will be fully supported. Under the experienced chief who heads them, our citizens we believe, will give a good account of the tawny sons of the forest, and their base instigators.
