Full Text

Peace Message, Last week the President sent a message to Congress, asking for some $2,000,000, wherewith to make peace with Mexico. He thinks he may want to make use of it in settling the boundary line. In other words, after all the fighting, we are to pay money to Mexico and she is to yield her territory to us. We have no room for the Message this week.

The House on Saturday granted the $2,000,000 but with this proviso, that the territory acquired by it shall never be Slave territory. The Southerners strove with might and main against it, but to no purpose.—The provision was adopted by a vote of 80 to 60.—Will it pass the Senate? Doubtful. Hold on there, ye be-fooled, disappointed, chafing, Democrats of the Northwest, and our fine southern, doubly southern President shall be headed yet.
