ROMAN AMPHITHEATRE.

A new Circus, to be constructed after the plan of the old Roman Amphitheatres, is about being built in this city by Messrs. Sands, Lent & Co., proprietors of the most extensive Equestrian company in the United States are the enterprising builders. It will be located at the south-east corner of Calvert and Franklin streets, and will be of a circular form, 100 feet in diameter.

The agent of the company (Mr. L. B. Titus) under whose immediate superintendence it will be built, has travelled extensively in Europe, and has with him the models of some of the best and most celebrated Amphitheatres of the "old world."

Messrs. H. & J. Reynolds, together with R. Currey Long, Esq., have been selected to construct the building. The ground was broke yesterday morning, and it is expected it will be finished in about twenty days, at a cost of $7000.

The ring will be 50 feet in diameter, and will be so made that every person in the house can have a full view of the performance. The house will be capable of seating comfortably 5,000 people.

We are informed that this company comprehends in one extensive and magnificent entertainment, all the varied exercises and talent of the arena, the Gymnasium, and the Menagerie, embracing the most beautiful stud of horses, and the most costly and brilliant equipage to be found in all Europe and America—being selected from the most celebrated stables of the old world, during a seven years' tour of the proprietors.

Among the most commanding features of this troupe are the thorough bred English horse "May Fly"—the twin ponies "Damon and Pythias"—the fighting ponies "Deaf Burke and Tom Spring"—the diminutive fairy steed, "Cinderella"—the high and beautiful thorough bred Arabian Polka horse, "Pas Temps;" and the beautifully marked, highly trained, docile and sagacious Lilliputian troupe of 12 ponies, all of which will be for the first time presented to the Baltimore public.

Among the names of the talented performers connected with the company are Mr. R. Sands and his gifted children,—Master Hernandez, the great juvenile rider,—Master Aymer, Mr. Mosely, Mr. E. Perry, Mr. H. W. Ruggles, and a host of other names of great celebrity in the Equestrian world.

The lovers of equestrianism may confidently expect a brilliant season. We will underwrite it.
