Alexandria Daily Gazette.
FRIDAY, MAY 5.
The Norfolk Ledger says, Mr. Basseit

300 votes.
Friend Samuel.
I have seen thy account of the sheep-
shearing at Arlington. It is prettily writ-
ten. Indeed some of thy friends might say
it is a "good thing." But I dissent, Sa-
muel, from the idea that our independence
is in any wise dependent on the breeding of
sheep: I dissent, because I believe it is the
sheep that have jeopardized our independ-
ence. Howbeit, let them enjoy it, we have
an adverse Opinion.
