C. J. Carey, chief of the division of market enforcement, state department of agriculture, today suspended the broker's license issued to Jack Meisels, local operator representing Wishnatski and Nathel of New York.
A complaint was filed against Meisels and his New York principals by the Farley Fruit company who claim $2697.95 due on 13 cars of melons received by Meisels two weeks ago. Meisels was summoned to a hearing before Carey and B. A. Harrigan, county agricultural commissioner, this morning and the order of suspension resulted. The suspension will remain in force until the account is settled.
"This is one of the first applications of the law as amended," said Carey. "Brokers will be held strictly responsible for deals made with eastern concerns, and any irregularity on the part of the broker or his receiver will result in suspension or possible permanent blacklisting from produce handling in the state," he added.
