SPECTATOR.

EDWARDSVILLE, JULY 10, 1819.

We have received several communications during the present week, on the subject of the approaching election of a representative to congress; but, taking them collectively, it is not conceived that they will have any influence in favor or against either of the two candidates: and to publish those in favor of one, and omit the other, would be a departure from the course we are disposed to pursue with respect to them. The pretensions and principles of each candidate are, we believe, fairly before the public.
