VIRGINIA ELECTION—WHIG GAIN.

The Election returns from Virginia, are very favorable to the Whigs.

So far as heard from, the Whigs have elected 35 delegates and the democrats 17. Last year in the same districts the Whigs elected 27, and the democrats 25. Whig gain, 8 members. Locofoco majority last year, in the House, 14.

We copy the following from the N. Y. Express:

VIRGINIA ELECTION—The returns come in slowly, but so far, they are highly satisfactory. We have hardly a doubt that the Whigs have a majority in the House, and if the remainder of the State has done as well as the counties heard from, they will have a majority in joint ballot.

Goggin's is supposed to be elected by a handsome majority.

From Wise's district, we have the reported vote of five of the thirteen counties. In these counties, last year, Wise's majority was 103. Now, Carter has a majority of about 50,—a gain of nearly half of Wise's majority in the whole district, which was 365.

VIRGINIA ELECTION.

There are no newspapers from Virginia, to-day being Sunday, but a great many passengers came on in the boat, who report that we shall have Virginia by a decided vote on Joint Ballot. The Postmaster General, who has more information than any one else, reports this evening that we shall have ten majority at least on Joint Ballot. This news needs confirmation, but is exceedingly probable.

It is certain that Goggin is elected to Congress by a large majority. It is probable that Bailey is elected from Wise's district by a small vote over Carter. The news is great, good, glorious. The State.
