Is Fatal To Man
Stabbed in the leg and thigh and suffering from loss of blood, William A. Lamar, 39, of 468 Gray St. N.W., died approximately five minutes after his arrival at Grady hospital early Saturday morning, police said.
Lamar's death increased the homicide death toll among Negroes to 38 for the year.
Finding it difficult to get at the source of the fatal stabbing, Officer C. R. Fleming said he finally contacted the victim's brother, who carried Lamar to the hospital. The brother told police he had learned that Lamar was stabbed following a disputed bet in a "skin game," Fleming said.
Arresting suspect Charles McCloudy, 21, of 525 Emmett St. N.W., Officer Fleming said McCloudy admitted the stabbing, claiming the victim was chasing him with a butcher knife and accusing him of taking a dollar from the game.
Lamar was said to have staggered to a Lambert Street residence where he awakened the occupant who in turn contacted the brother of the deceased.
Police were unable to get any information from Lamar before his death, reports claim.
