The National Anti Masonic Convention assembled at Washington on the 11th ult.-53 delegates present, representing Pennsylvania, Ohio, New York, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island—and organized by appointing Ner Middleswarth of Pa. President, Hon. John Allen of Ohio, Edward S. Williams Esq. of R. I., Henry Cotheal of N. Y. and Gov. Joseph Marble of Penn. Vice Presidents: Wm. M. Watts and J. J. Ross, Secretaries.

On motion of Mr. Stevens of Pa. Hon. J. Q. Adams was invited and took a seat in the convention.

A committee to draft resolutions was appointed and the convention adjourned.

Sept. 12. The committee reported sundry resolutions, which were adopted:

1. Declaring it inexpedient to make a national nomination at this time, and fixing upon the second Tuesday of Nov. 1838 for a national convention, to be holden at Philadelphia.

2. Declaring it the unalterable determination of this convention then to make a nomination and abide by it.

3. That the convention will nominate no candidate from any state unrepresented in the convention.

4. That they will persevere in their organization until secret oath-bound societies shall be prostrated throughout the Union, and inviting all who have heretofore acted with them to reunite and reorganize, regardless of past differences of opinion with respect to men.

5. Appointing a National Antimasonic committee as follows:

of Pennsylvania,

James Todd,

Thaddeus Stevens,

H. D. Ward

of New York,

Henry Cotheal,

Augustine Clarke, of Vermont,

Edward S. Williams, of Rhode Island,

John D. Williams, of Rhode Island.

J. H. Purdy, of Ohio.

6 and 7. Providing for publishing the proceedings of the convention in the states where an antimasonic organization exists, and in the Washington papers.
