A 12-man all-white jury, which sat in the Fulton Superior Court part of Tuesday, all day Wednesday and most of Thursday, listening to evidence in the murder case with Henry Favors, 49, of 952 Proctor St. charged with slaying his wife, Mrs Beulah Mae Favors, 37, of the same address, following a family argument last September, was still out early Thursday evening making an attempt at arriving at a verdict.
Presiding at the hearing and giving the charge to the jury late Thursday afternoon following arguments by the state and defense counsels was Judge A. L. Etheridge who remained in his chambers awaiting the verdict.
Favors is said to have slain his wife by striking her in the head with the stock of a shotgun he kept in his home after they had argued. The state contended that Favors killed his wife because he had learned of her unfaithfulness to him, and the defense argued that he killed her in defense of his own life after he had approached her as to the preparation of some food, when she went into sudden anger and attacked him with an ice pick.
Representing Favors is Swift Tyler, who in his argument made an attempt to point to the fine character and reputation of his client, a local railway employee for more than 20 years, who had no previous criminal record.
It was expected momentarily that the jury would return with a verdict in the case which attracted large numbers of persons each day.
