PEACH TREES.
The Peach engrafted on the Plum, succeeds excellently, and lives longer than it would have done in a natural state; the reason seems to be, that the Peach is a tender tree, shoots with vivacity, and produces more branches than the root is able to maintain. Thus the Peach trees are usually full of dead wood, and often their larger branches perish, and sometimes the whole trunk. On this occasion, the Plums being a low shooting tree, communicate its virtue to the graft; and the Peach consequently sends out shoots which are more robust and strong, and are no more in number than the root is able to supply with nourishment, and consequently the tree is more lasting.
