GEORGIA'S STORM INNING
SOME time ago it was ours to read of floods and destruction of property in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and other distant parts. Funds were gathered and sent to the distressed in the storm areas for the relief of the suffering. In just a fortnight the storm has come to our very doors. In the tornado which swept Cordele a number of people lost their lives. Many of those dying in the storm were colored people. The pictures given out by the associated press represent much damage to property and roads.
It will be observed that the heavy rains were followed by a return of cold weather. In many parts of the state the weather has been too severe for preparing and planting crops. Much of the fine land in the state, expected to be put under cultivation has not been broken.
In addition to the suffering of the people in the flood area there is a promise of late and poor crops.
Want, disease and privation are bound to follow.
It is hoped that our people will rally in some concerted form for the suffering at Cordele. Never was there a better opportunity for real missionary work.
Let our sympathy and purses go out to our distressed neighbors.
