The Supreme Judicial Court continues in session in this town. The Grand Jury returned a bill against Daniel Stone, of Oakham, for the murder of his son, but his trial cannot be had at this term, there being but one Judge present. Several other indictments were found, and the following convictions have taken place: David Woodward of Petersham, for a felonious assault on the person of a child, under 10 years of age, with intent to ravish. Sentence not yet passed. Lebbeus Priest.—By confession for stealing a horse and chaise. He pleaded intoxication as a justification, but the court only received it in extenuation, and sentenced him to solitary imprisonment six days, and hard labor in the State's Prison two years. Same by confession for breaking the jail, and escaping therefrom—Sentence, imprisonment six months in jail. William Johnson—By confession for stealing a watch, in Sturbridge.—Declared he was a very honest fellow, and never would have taken the watch if he had not been tipsy or so. He had committed the crime, but was sorry for it, and begged the Court to be merciful. Sentence—solitary confinement six days, and hard labor two years, in the State's Prison.—Same, by verdict, of breaking the jail, and escaping therefrom.—Sentence—imprisonment in jail six months.—Same, by verdict, of stealing sundry watches and jewelry, which, it appeared, were taken from a Store in New-Haven, and brought into this county. Sentence—Solitary imprisonment six days, and hard labor in the State's Prison, eighteen months.
