In the Senate, yesterday, certain papers relative to a dispute between the Superintendent of Public Instruction and the Petersburg Board of Public Schools were laid on the table and ordered to be printed.
A bill was reported to regulate the uniformity of text books in the public schools.
The bill providing a new charter for Petersburg was passed; also, a bill to provide new bridges in place of those washed away by the recent freshet.
The bill incorporating the Staunton River Savings Bank in Pittsylvania county was passed.
In the House of Delegates an adverse report was made on the bill to amend the Code in relation to pay of jurors.
Bills were passed authorizing the sale of the commons of the town of Woodstock, Shenandoah county; authorizing the M. E. Church at Staunton to sell a portion of their real estate; providing for a Supreme Court law library at Staunton and Wytheville; establishing the eighteenth judicial circuit; and for the relief of D. N. Gordon, late collector of Cedar Run Township, in Fauquier county.
The bill for the appointment of railroad commissioners for Virginia was debated until adjournment.
