Two Hundred People in the Building, but All Manage to Escape.
New York, Jan. 28.—Fire started at 9:30 o'clock last night on the floor of the Castle hotel at the corner of Amsterdam avenue and One Hundred and Third street, and resulted in a loss of $100,000, partly covered by insurance. The hotel is the property of David and Peter Mitchell.
The room where the fire started was the parlor of the suite occupied by Colin F. Forbes, the portrait artist. This room was quickly gutted, and from this the fire traveled rapidly through the three floors above the roof.
The house contained 150 guests, comprising 43 families, and about 50 servants, all of whom got out without accident. One old lady, during the fire, became excited and hysterical as she was being carried out of the building, and a Mrs. Lester had to be carried out by an elevator boy.
