Because the editor of that print is a greater Dog
"He can neither write English nor common sense, and his low attempts at wit are actually beneath the dignity of contempt." Democrat
And the Editor of the Democrat, as fully abounding in all of these, is a little beneath that.
(The Whigs) "have no honest principle to keep them together."—Democrat.
But the Democrats have a dishonest principle to keep them together.
From such a source nothing but truth can excite surprise.—Democrat.
That is—from the source of the editor of the Democrat, who lives by falsehood.
But it is throwing away words to comment on the stupid stuff that the Argus deals forth.—Democrat.
And still more so to comment on the stupid editor of the Democrat.
We reiterate our former assertions, that the democratic party have a clear majority in the county, and that the Whig members elect, and the sheriff are minority men. Democrat.
We "reiterate" that it is a lie, sir.
Who can stop that Ball.—Democrat.
Not the Editor of the Democrat, for he is too apt to tumble.
The following is a superscription on a packet from Jackson, by last mail. "The Democrats will have a majority of fifteen in the Legislature." Laus deo! Democrat.
Jackasses we suppose.
LOCOFOCO BEAUTIES.—We find the following advertisement in the columns of the "New Era," a Loco foco Journal published in the city of New York, that heads even the defunct "Washington Chronicle."
"Down Town,—"The Albany Basin Rattlers, under Peter L. Cloyd, as Grand Marshal, will parade this evening from their head quarters, No. 142, Liberty Street, at 7 o'clock. The Indomitables, Butt Enders, Huge Paws, Roarers, [Ball Rollers,] and Simon pures are invited to join them."
We don't care for the towns. They are sores on the body politic.—Democrat.
And Democracy constitutes the pus with which those sores abound.
The Yellow Fever was abating in New Orleans the last accounts.
Pledged, not one pledge of this solemn engagement has marked their whole course; the uniform plan of deception has been invariable failure has succeeded, but one redeemed, every new scheme. Never did the monster party wave his head with such undaunted effrontery, or breathe proscription of the most contemptible kind have occurred in your own county, and offices are openly conferred upon defeated candidates, for Congress to reward them or their partisan services. Bribery and corruption stalk through the land and have become too familiar to attract comment. More members of Congress and Editors of newspapers have been appointed to office during one administration than during all the other administrations since the adoption of the Constitution. Utterly prostrated and the Executive power has become absolute, through the influence of patronage - an influence, which, without noise and without violence, has effected more in changing the spirit of our institutions than a standing army could have done, and whilst we retain the form of free Government daily experience all the results of an arbitrary one. The promised retrenchment has been redeemed in the expenses of the Government amounting to millions of dollars which have been saved, and the numerous robberies, perpetrated the public treasury. The violation of their promise of Reform is told in almost every act of this unprincipled party. With the view, as they professed, of quelling the spirit of speculation which had been aroused by the facility of obtaining money from the banks, and which, fostered and sustained by the measures of the General Government, pervaded the whole community. The making of a fortune was the achievement of a day-and the splendid castles that dazzled the bewildered fancies of the people were like the works of enchantment. During this unnatural and unsubstantial condition of things the people were confidently assured by the Democratic party that notwithstanding the declamations and melancholy forebodings, of the panic makers as they termed the opposition party, all this prosperity was the result of their measures and that exchange and currency were as uniform and during the existence of the United States Bank. But soon a change came o'er the spirit of their dream" when that delusive system, this baseless fabric not having the solid foundation of a specie basis to rest on, nor the essential support of mutual confidence to sustain it, crumbled beneath the first touch of pressure, and left the country covered with its worthless rags. Pecuniary distress and universal famine took the places of abundant capital and general confidence, ruin and dismay reared their heads over profitable industry and active enterprise, credit was crushed, energy paralysed and the general prosperity of the country prostrated. The authors of this abortive experiment, after their extravagant promises of its benefits, maddened by disappointment at its failure, spurned from their their spurious offspring of State Banks and with insulting impudence, attempted to fix the stigma of their origin upon the opposition party, and to charge them with the consequences of their own profligacy. But the whole of that transaction, is of too recent occurrence to enable them to effect any thing by the charge, except to expose their unblushing effrontery and unhesitating inconsistency, with that want of plan which characterises ignorance, and that recklessness of action which betrays their selfish indifference to the interests of the people, rushing from one extreme to another, abandoning their numerous progeny of State Banks to bide the peltings of the pitiless storm, they take to their embraces the offspring of another parent, which they had formerly rejected, the federal Sub-Treasury, and declaring unrelenting hostility to all banks, they hold forth their present pet to the people as the only means to cure all their evils and to remedy all their misfortunes. The destruction of credit, an exclusive specie currency are insisted upon as indispensable requisites to restore this country to its former condition of prosperity and tranquility. The banks have been forced into a premature resumption of specie payments under the full operation of the Sub-Treasury system and in the midst of the triumph of the party another suspension has taken place. The business of the country is again in a state of profound stagnation. Pressure with its withering grasp has palsied the arm of industry and paralysed the vitals of prosperity and under the present system you have nothing in prospective but gloom confusion and dismay. The same party which brought you into this labyrinth of difficulties and distress, whatever may have been the late partial success of their opponents in this State, are still in the possession of all the power which can be used for either good or evil, and as they have devised no plan of extrication, it is the duty of every patriot to battle with them on every field until we wrest from them the means which they have used to our country's ruin. And although it may be that we have not succeeded in the late contest as we could have wished; yet, let that even inspire us with still greater determination to finally prevail, and never to give up the ship.
