Full Text

The Locos avow a great desire that the President should veto the Bank bill now before Congress.—Suppose he does, will they be any better pleased with Mr. Ewing's bill—which is understood to be the favorite measure of the President, and which may be adopted in case of the failure of the other? Ritchie and the rest have denounced that as more odious than Mr. Clay's original bill. It is equally unconstitutional, they say—and then they will have to petition for a branch of the monster here—a painful and mortifying alternative they would gladly escape. They would much rather the Bank had the power of its own free will to establish branches than that they would be compelled to beg for one.—Rich. Whig.

Event Details

The Locos express desire for the President to veto the Bank bill before Congress. The text questions if they would prefer Mr. Ewing's bill, the President's favored measure, which may be adopted if the other fails. Ritchie and others denounce Ewing's bill as more odious and unconstitutional than Mr. Clay's original, forcing them to petition for a local bank branch, an undesirable alternative to the Bank establishing branches freely.
