Full Text

R. P. Dick, Esq., has received a telegraphic dispatch from Mr. Douglas stating that he will attend the meeting of his friends in Raleigh on Thursday next. Mr. Douglas is the first Presidential candidate who has ever taken the stump in the United States. Some people were terribly horrified because Gen. Lane paid a visit to his relatives in this State, notwithstanding he refused any public reception. What do they now think of the electioneering tours of Mr. Douglas? If Mr. Breckinridge were to go about making electioneering speeches we should hear every opposition paper in the State sending up doleful lamentations about the impropriety of the act, &c.
