VERMONT SENATOR.--The Hon. Samuel S. Phelps, of Middlebury, has been elected a Senator in Congress by the Legislature of the State of Vermont, for the term of six years from the 4th of March next, in place of Hon. Benjamin Swift, whose term of service will then expire. Mr. Phelps was chosen by the House of Representatives on the sixteenth ballot by the following vote:--Phelps 107; Allen 20; Kellogg (Locofoco) 76. In the Senate, the vote stood for Phelps 14--all others, 12. Mr. Phelps is now one of the assistant Justices of the Supreme Court.--Hartford Courant.
