JUNEAU- Announcement was made this week that John T. McLaughlin of Juneau has been appointed for a four-year term as executive director of the Alaska Employment Security Council.
The announcement followed the result of a board meeting at Fairbanks last week. McLaughlin, who has been acting director, will fill the vacancy created several months ago by the resignation of R. E. Sheldon.
With the exception of two years in the armed forces during World War II, McLaughlin has been an employee of the agency since its inception in 1937. The last five years he has headed the Unemployment Insurance Division.
McLaughlin was born and raised in Juneau where he and his wife and four children maintain their home.
In commenting on the appointment, Ralph J. Rivers, of Fairbanks and chairman of the Commission said: "The Alaska agency is fortunate in being able to obtain the services of a man with Mr. McLaughlin's experience and administrative ability."
In his new position McLaughlin will head up the Alaska employment service program consisting of employment offices throughout the Territory, and the unemployment insurance program.
Present at the Fairbanks meeting where the appointment was confirmed, were Chairman Rivers and Anthony Zorich, commission member from Ketchikan. Commission member George Vaara of Anchorage, was unable to attend.
