PAPERS OPENED
According to a bequest by the War President's son, Robert Todd Lincoln, to the Library of Congress at Washington that 21 years after his death the five double vaults in which he had placed his father's papers found in the White House at the time of President Abraham Lincoln's death were opened by thirty scholars.
Congressional Librarian Dr. Luther H. Evans started the formal opening at an appointed hour by reading the President's son's gift.
In 1919 Robert Todd Lincoln placed the five vaults in the library and in 1923 actually deeded them to the Congressional Library with the above mentioned stipulation.
Robert Todd Lincoln died July 26, 1926.
