Full Text

Charles B. Ham, customs appraiser at Chicago, is making a kick against Secretary Bristow for turning him out without notice. The cream of the joke is that Ham is a prominent writer on the Inter-Ocean, a red hot Radical paper, and therefore wields a double-edged tool. He has published an open letter to Bristow, Secretary of the Treasury, making serious charges against him for covering up frauds in the New York custom house and says that the report of Mr. Blodgett detailing the monstrous frauds which honey-combed the customs service of New York was suppressed, and the author of it not permitted to return to New York to continue the reform he had inaugurated, but was remanded to the routine duty of general appraiser of the port of Philadelphia. The old saying about thieves falling out and honest people getting their dues is verified in this case. Charley knew of these irregularities but didn't say anything, for the good of the government until his soup bowl was knocked over. Keep up the fight, Mr. Ham and Mr. Secretary; every word on this subject makes a Democratic voter.
