Full Text

We are sorry to learn that a passenger from
Alexandria, in the boat which arrived here
late on Thursday night, whose name we have
not heard, fell overboard and was drowned.
He attempted to jump ashore as soon as the
boat struck the Georgetown wharf, and fell
backward into the water. His body was found
yesterday morning.

P. S.—Since writing the above we understand that the name of the unfortunate man
was Ritchie, and that he lived near the Steamboat wharf at Washington. As the boat was
engaged by a private party Captain Mitchell
remonstrated against his coming on board, particularly as he was very much intoxicated.
but by some means he eluded his vigilance.
and was found to be overboard after the boat
left the Alexandria wharf.—Georgetown Advocate.
