A Show Window Crashed.

Saturday afternoon while the carpenters were at work repairing the sign of G. Y. Smith one of them dropped a hammer from the scaffold and cracked the large plate glass show window. It was not taken out at once. Yesterday afternoon C. A. Ryer and C. D. Bullock went into the window for the purpose of taking out the glass. It was very shaky, and both gentlemen decided to vacate the window. They had hardly done so before someone in the store opened the rear door and this produced a draft strong enough to blow in the window. The huge glass, ten feet by fifteen, was shattered into a thousand pieces. It is unusually thick, and had Messrs. Ryer and Bullock remained in the window a minute longer both would undoubtedly have been killed. The display in the window was not damaged to any great extent.
