THE PILOT OF THE EMPIRE. Levi Smith, the pilot of the steamer Empire has been arrested in New York, and held to bail in the sum of $10,000, on the charge of negligence in bringing about the late collision on North River. Smith gave the required bail.

The District Attorney notified the Grand Jury that the case of the Empire was without their jurisdiction. It is understood that the case of the Empire will be taken up by the Grand Jury, when they have disposed of the case of the master and officers of the schooner Sarah, seized for participating in the slave trade.
STEAMER EMPIRE:
Newburgh, May 24—8 P. M.

The names given in the following despatches differ somewhat from our first. Two bodies were recovered from the wreck of the Empire this morning, one of whom was identified as that of James Dillon, better known as 'Irish Jimmy,' about the dock at Troy, and about 55 years of age—The other body is that of an immigrant girl named Margaret Duncan, aged about 16 years, and who was in the company with the Carsons.

The whole number found is twenty. Four more persons are inquired for, who are supposed to be lost.

The Coroner's Jury are in session at Fishkill this evening. We cannot state when its labors will close.

The work of raising the boat is necessarily slow. The contractor states that he shall make good headway to-morrow, and that in two or three days she will be ready to float, when she will be towed directly to New York.

The injury to the boat though great, is not as bad as was at first anticipated. It is believed that she will again run upon our waters.
