What's the matter with the world?
Our former Secretary of the Interior, Albert Fall, used to be of acknowledged church and Sunday School habits. Now he is having trouble explaining how he came to acquire a "friendly loan" of $100,000 about the time leases were being given out on the celebrated "Tea Pot Dome" naval oil fields of Wyoming. It is rather peculiar how these public officials employed in locating rich mineral resources at expense of the government find so many moneyed friends to help them make investments. Another case in point is that of a son of General Wood, of the Philippines, who is reported to have found cash enough to make over $800,000 in Wall street investments through "friendly loans" by financial experts.
