Whigs of Old Wayne,
Remember that the first Monday in August is not a day of your own, but that it belongs to your country. A day dedicated to the most sacred obligations of an American citizen--a day consecrated to the perpetuation of our free and republican institutions--the watch-day of Freedom. You are sentinels upon the watch-tower, and on the first Monday in August you are called upon to muster one and all, and report, what of your country--make a new selection servants, and determine the policy of action for the ensuing year. Remember the election of E. A. Hannegan to the Senate of the United States, and the base treachery by which it was brought about. You then trusted in pledges--but now place your dependence in the ballot box.
