The band concert and picnic in the Kettle River Park Sunday sponsored by the Askov Band was a success in every respect. The weather was ideal and people from all parts of the county responded to the invitation, the attendance being generally estimated at 700 to 800. The band played for 45 minutes after which the following gave short talks in the order named: Svend Petersen, Askov; P. W. Swedberg, Moose Lake; and Wm. H. Barnick, Sandstone. Mr. Barnick also auctioned off the 65 piles of wood which brought the neat sum of $47.40 - thanks to the liberal and enthusiastic bidding of N. P. Jensen, Axel Brus and others. The refreshment stands brought a profit of nearly $20; and cash donations to the park were $26 and about $50 in labor. The band boys finished up the afternoon with another hour of music which was much appreciated by the big audience. Most of the visitors took occasion to view the various scenic points of the park which have been improved and made accessible. Paths to additional scenery will be cleared this month and a one way road out of the park will also be constructed. The band boys wish to extend thanks to the many women and men who helped them in making the affair such a splendid success.
