Tolleson FFA Takes Sweepstakes Award
Second Year in a Row at UA Field Day

For the second straight year, Tolleson Union high school's Future Farmers of America chapter captured the sweepstakes award at the annual FFA field day at the University of Arizona, Tucson.

Sponsored by the agricultural department, the field day was held March 17 at the U of A.

THE SWEEPSTAKES Winners are selected by the six top team placings. Top teams from Tolleson were: agronomy, first; horticulture, second; meats, third; livestock judging, fourth; dairy judging, fourth; and entomology, fourth.

Agua Fria and Amphitheater chapters tied for the second place sweepstakes.

In order to receive this sweepstakes award the chapter had to compete against 32 other schools and some 600 other boys.

INDIVIDUAL WINNERS WERE Burke Whitfield and Fred Amator, silver award in agronomy; Robert Underdown, a bronze in poultry; Joe VanDyke, a silver in meats; Junior Stewart, a gold, and Niamat Khan, a silver in horticulture. Among honorable mentions were Robert Underdown in entomology and Jim Accamazo in dairy.

Members composing each team are: agronomy Burke Whitfield and Fred Amator; horticulture - Junior Stewart and Niamat Khan; meat judging - Joe VanDyke, Jim Mortensen and David Hudson; livestock - Keith Neitch, Antony Bruno and Jim Mortensen; dairy judging - Jim Accamazo, David Cox and Vernon St. John; entomology - Robert Underdown and Richard Grissman and Arthur Tobin.

Tolleson also won the Work Horse chapter title, comparable to the U of A sweepstakes award, at Arizona State University at Tempe March 10, states Niamet A. Khan, chapter reporter.
