Black Against White.-" One Of our citizens gave a Norwegian soldier a severe pummeling last night, on the supposition that he had insulted his wife. After polishing off the soldier very genteelly he had him committed to jail to await a trial before Justice Braley. On being brought into Court this morning. it was proved the unfortunate Norwegian was not the man that insulted the woman, and he was released."
We clip the above from the Madison Journal, the leading Republican paper of the State. We will make a small bet that had the "unfortunate Norwegian" been an ugly nigger, the Journal and other Abolition sheets would raise a howl! from one end of the State to the other. Ah, however, it is only an 'unfortunate Norwegian' who received a severe "pummeling." they have not a word of pity for him.
