Clifford E. Rucker, director of the Governor's Human Rights Commission, announced this week that Jean-Pierre Guilmant, former photographer and reporter for the Spokesman-Recorder newspapers has been commissioned to create a film story of "Human Relations in Action in Minnesota" as part of the commission's exhibit at the Minnesota State Fair opening August 27.
Guilmant, who left the Spokesman-Recorder offices to assume the duties of editor of The North Minneapolis POST and photo director for The North Hennepin POST, and Brooklyn Center PRESS, first entered professional photography and journalism through his interest in human relations as seen by the camera's lens. He is well-known in human relations circles because of his excellent rendering of human problems on film.
His recent photographic coverage of the NAACP National Convention was commended by Leonard Carter, regional secretary of the NAACP, and received national distribution in both white and Negro news media.
Rucker estimates that more than 1/2 million people will see the film story.
"We admit that several problems still exist in Minnesota human relations fields," said Rucker, "but we also admit to having a healthy climate for good human relations and this is what the Governor's Commission will attempt to impress upon State Fair visitors."
