A Ferryboat Pickpocket.

Mr. David Welsh, of Eleventh and Grove streets, went to sleep on a Desbrosses street ferryboat while crossing over to New York late Saturday night. There were but few passengers aboard. While asleep Mr. Welsh was relieved of a $260 gold watch, a present from his sister, a locket and $9 in cash. The thief was seen in the act by a lady who informed the deck hands and pointed out the thief. It was noticed that he did not get off on the other side, but returned. Somehow he escaped the vigilance of the deck hands and got off the boat on this side. Patrolman Helmer got his description and caught him hiding in the ferry house. The watch, on the outside of which was inscribed the owner's name, the locket and the money were all found in the thief's pockets. This morning Justice Stilsing committed him for trial.
