Printed at WASHINGTON, 1791.
CHAP. II.
1. The Americanites revolt from the Britainites. 5: and build a Temple to dwell under : 9. They make choice of a ruler. 10. A murmuring is made about the power of their ruler. 13. John (surnamed the T****w G****r) wants to take the power from the people and give it to the ruler. 14. The people murmur against John, and spreadeth an ill fame of him throughout all the land
1. AND it came to pass in those days, that the Americanites chafing under the yoke that their forefathers beyond the great waters had placed on them, revolted, and became as one people.
2. And there went a decree throughout the land of the Britainites that all the strong men of the nation should cross the great waters to slay the Americanites, for as much as they had done evil in the sight of the Lord of Hosts.
3. And the strong men of the nation were gathered together, and passed over the great waters into the land of the Americanites.
4. There was war throughout all the land : But the Lord of Hosts, the God of Israel, was on the side of the Americanites: and he sent his angel with a mighty Sword, and he delivered the Americanites from the yoke of the Britainites.
5. Now when all the people saw that the Lord had fought on their side, that he had delivered them from the hands of the shedders of blood, they said, now we are freed let us build a temple, yea, a mighty temple, that we may dwell under its shadow, and that it may be a goodly inheritance for our sons and daughters.
6. And the people sent forth their decree, saying, Let us hold council together at the great City of Philadelphia in the country of the Pennsylvanians, that we may raise a temple to dwell under, for as much as we now have no need of the temple of George the Britainite, the great ruler of our forefathers.
7. And the people sent forth their workmen, men skilled in knowledge, to the great City of Pennsylvania, that they might build a temple. And they came from all parts of the land and built a temple for the Americanites to dwell under.
8. Now it came to pass when those things were done, and the people were satisfied with the work of their hands that they saw meet to have a ruler over them, that he might dwell in the temple, and be as a goodly inheritance to the land :
9. And they made choice of George the Virginianite, a man who walked in the fear of the Lord. and was greatly beloved of the people :
10. And in the first year of his reign, there was a great murmuring in the house of council, about the power that they should give to George the Virginianite.
11. Now when those things were doing, there was a certain man in the council, called John, (surnamed the T****w G****r) who had been made a great man by the Americanites;
12. And John waxed strong in his might, and became as one of the chief men of the nation ; yea, even next so as the ruler thereof.
13. And it came to pass that John arose from his seat, and, in the mightiness of his strength, saith to the chief men of the council, we will have a king to rule over us, and he shall rule, even as the kings beyond the great waters ruleth, for I have lived in their land, and have seen their goodly works : yea, I have seen their power in great glory and strength.
14. Now when these things were told abroad to the people, how John had acted, there went forth a murmur throughout all the land, and they waxed exceedingly wroth, and said in their anger, we will no more exalt John, for as much as he hath done evil in our sight, even in the sight of this great people, who hath given him to drink of the wine and oil of the land and now he hath rewarded us with evil works.
