Sees Greater Indianapolis Ahead
The churches of Indianapolis can not continue to wear the same size clothes, but must regularly be remeasured and retailored to meet new conditions that arise in the city's development, declared Rev. Charles H. Winders, new secretary of the Indianapolis Federation of churches, today.
"While I have no new program now to announce, yet I believe in meeting conditions as they arise, and so I expect to carry on the old policy until new needs are imminent," explained the new secretary.
He is a big man physically, mentally, morally and socially. There is a kindly gleam in his bluish eyes and yet about the mouth there are lines that show persistence and determination and firmness.
HE'S GOT WEIGHT
TO CARRY ISSUES.
"The churches of Indianapolis must be prepared to practically come to the front when called upon to perform definite service, and I believe in this principle for making live churches," continued Rev. Winders.
"I am glad to say that the Indianapolis churches are prosperous in the beginning of the new year, and I believe that great work will be accomplished during 1920," he predicted.
FORMERLY FILLED
PULPIT IN CITY.
Rev. Winders is well known to Indianapolis churchgoers, since he served the Downey Avenue Christian church for over a decade as pastor, and his business-like interpretations of the work of a minister won for him recognition in his recent appointment to succeed Rev. Morton C. Pearson, who takes up secretarial work in Detroit.
"I want to secure the fullest co-operation of the various churches and the press, particularly the press, and I am glad that we have in Indianapolis reporters, assigned to church work, who are connected with different churches of the city," and the new church federation secretary smiled pleasantly as he spoke.
