WHY BUT ONE?

Melvin Schmitt Arrested for a Boyish Prank Yesterday.

There were probably a thousand boys, more or less, yesterday engaged in the essentially boyish but decidedly silly and annoying practice of throwing handfuls of flour on one another, just because it was All Fools' Day. Sometimes they varied the alleged sport by dumping the flour on Chinamen.

Nearly every boy one would meet had his head or clothing spattered with flour. And out of all the boys in the city that engaged in the practice one poor little fellow, Melvin Schmitt, was arrested and charged with battery. He was with a crowd of boys at the time, all of whom were engaged in the same practice, but he alone was seized by a policeman and taken to jail.

Did the Schmitt child hurl his flour more offensively than did the others, or was he the only one that was unable to outrun a policeman?
