TO SEE THE WORLD.

A Virginia Miss of 16 Attires Herself as a Boy and Sets Out to Tramp.

Tasley, Va., Oct. 29.-Lillian Otwell, a pretty girl of 16 years, who had been raised by her aunt in the village of Horntown, Accomac county, Va., disappeared from her home four weeks ago. Her relatives searched the county around without obtaining the slightest clue to her whereabouts until her aunt, who had given her up as dead, received a letter from the section master of the Philadelphia & Norfolk railroad at Delmar, the dividing line between Delaware and Maryland, describing the girl and stating that she was safe at his home. For several months before her disappearance she had been afflicted with melancholia and her aunt feared that she had committed suicide. The girl, after leaving home, had cut off her long brown hair and procured a suit of boy's clothing. Attired in a flannel suit, ill-fitting pantaloons, a slouch hat and big boots, she started out to walk to Philadelphia, bent upon traveling around the world. She had walked the railroad ties for thirty miles and was sick and in an exhausted condition when found by the kind-hearted railroad man. He took her to be a poor homeless boy, and sent her to his wife to get some food. His wife, upon learning the sex of the little tramp, made her change her clothing and wanted to send her home, but the girl refused to tell where she lived and begged so hard to remain with her new-found friends that they finally consented. In the meantime the railroad man had inquiries made along the railroad and finally located her home. The girl said she had been kindly treated by her aunt and had no cause to leave home other than that she wanted to see the world. She was returned to her aunt.
