Fellow Citizens:--A report having been circulated, with a design to have an effect on O. H. Smith, at the approaching election, in which our names have been used, we deem it a duty we owe to him, to you, and to ourselves, to correct it, and will take the liberty of making some additional remarks. The report is in substance about this: that we should have heard the widow of the late Septimus Smith, (brother of O. H. Smith,) in an interview with Peter Wright of Philadelphia, charge the said O. H. Smith with cheating her out of several hundred dollars, and that we were so well satisfied of the correctness of said charge, that we had deserted Smith, and would support McCarty. Now we unhesitatingly pronounce the above report a misrepresentation and altogether without foundation; and so far are we from deserting Smith, that we feel an increased confidence in his integrity and success--believing that in Wayne county he will receive a greater number of votes, at the ensuing election, than at any former one.
In the interview above alluded to, which was had in our presence, the object of which was to explain to said Wright, and request him to explain to Dr. Moses Smith of Philadelphia, (who holds a considerable claim against the estate of Septimus Smith decd.) the situation of the estate, she (the widow) regretted the inability of the estate to meet the demands. In preferring this claim O. H. Smith was employed by his brother the Doctor as agent, and had received part of the amount-but she made no charge against O. H. Smith of injustice; she only supposed that he had not taken sufficient care to inform the Doctor of the situation of the estate. This she inferred from the Doctor's having lately written her, urging the ability of the estate to meet the demands against it, provided it was correctly managed. We have been thus explicit, in consequence of a belief, that the above report has been got up and circulated as a Hobby, by designing men, for the purpose of putting Smith down and M'Carty up.

Main Argument
the signatories deny a rumor that they deserted o.h. smith due to allegations of him cheating his brother's widow out of money, clarify that no such charge was made in a witnessed interview about the estate's situation, and reaffirm their strong support for smith in the upcoming election, predicting more votes for him in wayne county.
