COMMUNICATIONS.

To the Republican Citizens of New-Hampshire

Considering the circumstances under which the nomination of your Candidates for Electors of President and Vice President of the United States—was made, I am led to believe it to have been the expectation of those who were instrumental in electing those Candidates, that if chosen they would give their votes agreeably to the recommendation of the Republican Congressional Caucus, and finding my name in the list handed to the public, have thought proper to, address you on the subject.

At all times, I have esteemed it an honour to enjoy your confidence, and peculiarly so at a crisis so important as the present, it shall be my earnest solicitude to retain that confidence, for long as it can be secured by an undeviating adherence to those republican principles which it ever has been, and still will be my ardent desire to support as the only means; under Heaven, by which the distinguished blessings of our happy government (now probably the only free government on earth) may be secured to ourselves and to our posterity.

The office of an Elector of the first magistrates of our Nation is at all times an office of high responsibility and perhaps in no event could be more so than at the present crisis—

& I owe it to you, my fellow citizens, because you have confided in me, and to myself, because both candor and conscience impose it, thus publicly to make known, that if I am honored with your suffrages on this occasion, I shall not consider myself as pledged to act in any other manner than as my own private opinion, under the then existing state of our country may dictate, and in the choice between Candidates, all of Republican principles, to aid in the election of those who in my own opinion are best qualified to render our nation formidable in War and prosperous in Peace,

Respectfully your fellow citizen

JOHN GODDARD.
