A new mode of making a Federal Ticket
In the New-York Gazette of Saturday last, an extract is published of a letter, said to be written in South Carolina, dated Charleston, October 17th which is made to say this—“Our election is over—the Federal Ticket carried 16 out of 17.” Unluckily for this federal fabrication manifestly of New-York origin, the city of Charleston, including Saint Philip and Saint Michael's parishes, does by the constitution of that state, send no more than 15 representatives into the house of representatives: so that neither 16 or 17 could have been elected. Again, the same extract says, "the Federal Ticket carried." Carried truly, by a new federal mode of carrying, that is by voting in eight of the candidates named on both tickets, the republican and federal; and thus giving in fact by what is called "carrying the federal ticket," a majority of one to the republicans. For the truth of this last fact, the Editor is possessed of a letter from a gentleman of high reputation in Charleston, stating the fact, and adding moreover "that a decided majority of republicans is elected to both houses of the legislature of that state."

Event Details
The New York Gazette published an extract of a letter purportedly from Charleston, dated October 17th, claiming the Federal Ticket carried 16 out of 17 in the election. This is a fabrication, as Charleston sends only 15 representatives by the state constitution. The Federal Ticket was 'carried' by counting eight candidates on both tickets, resulting in a Republican majority of one.
