AN IMPOSTOR

An individual, calling himself Wm. Wright, Wm. S. Wright, Scott, and other aliases, has, for several years, been prowling through the United States, entrapping the unwary, by fictitious stories of accident, or imaginary wealth, consequence, or connection.

He has obtained moneys from various friends of a distinguished Senator from New York, under pretence of being a relative. On the credulity of the young and of the unsuspecting, he has imposed by tales of ample means, and expected wealth, as heir apparent of some rich English relation.

He is known to have trespassed on the hospitalities of the South, and, quite recently, to have abused the proverbial hospitality of a distinguished Virginia family in Orange county.

This notice is now reluctantly taken of the circumstance, by a friend of that family, from the conviction that this arrant impostor may avail himself of facts and incidents (which he, doubtless cunningly possessed himself of whilst abusing the generosity of his hosts) to detail or distort purloined information of the name, family and estate, for purpose of imposition on some of its numerous friends elsewhere.

A few days ago, such an attempt was made, at this place, by this personage, under the assumed name of Scott.

However true the various information and conjectures of other and more notorious acts, it is certain that for a series of years he has hitherto escaped "unwhipped of justice."
