Sioux Falls Press, 10th: R. F. Pettigrew yesterday received a letter from
President Ives, of the Burlington, Cedar
Rapids & Northwestern railway, which
is a very favorable indication regarding
Sioux Falls' chances for securing connection with the system of which that
line is a part. From this letter there
are very good grounds for hoping that
the early spring will see work in progress
for construction of the line to this city.
The Press has already recorded the
judgment of a prominent railroad man,
expressed during an interview in St.
Paul, that next season will see work
commenced on 5,000 miles of railroad
extension in the northwest, and this
letter from President Ives is a pointer
that Sioux Falls will enjoy some of it.
The whole matter will hinge upon the
question as to whether or not the improvement in financial affairs which recently set in shall continue. If it does,
the building of the Burlington, Cedar
Rapids & Northern to Sioux Falls,
thus giving us connection with the great
Rock Island system, may be regarded as
a certainty.
