WINTER SEASON

OFFERS PLAYS

AND CONCERTS

El Centro is to have an unusually fine season culturally if the various organizations' plans are completed, a season in which other residents of the valley may share.

The Imperial Valley Branch of the California Music Teachers' association is planning a series of three splendid concerts to be given during the winter, at which distinguished artists will be presented. In their first concert, given by the Lyell Barbour quartet, the branch afforded valley residents a delightful evening of fine music.

Experimental theatre, has, through public demand, discarded its programs of one-act plays and will present five three-act plays, none of which has been presented previously in Imperial county. The program is varied, running from light, sophisticated, nonsensical farce, through comedy drama to the serious problem play.

The opening production will be November 8 and 9 when a sophisticated farce, written by Leroy Rumsey, who, with Phil Remington, acts as director for the group, will have its try-out. Title of the play is "As I Love You."

December 13-14, "Ladies of Creation" a comedy drama dealing with the problems of the young woman in business, will be presented, this play being the work of Gladys Unger, one of the finest of America's minor dramatists and whose comedy rivals that of Rachel Crothers.

"Men Must Fight," by Reginald Lawrence and S. K. Lauren, a powerful drama and one of the most ambitious undertakings of the Experimental Theatre, will be given January 31 and February 1.

"The Roundabout," a highly amusing English comedy of manners written by the well known J. B. Priestley will be given in March.

The April production is "Safe Amongst the Pigs," a light comedy by Harold Brighouse. According to Samuel French, who holds the amateur rights, these last three plays will be given their Southern California premiers in the valley.

In addition to the above, Women's University club is sponsoring the series of vesper musicales which met with such popular approval last year and at which pupils from the various valley music studios are presented.
