and American Ministers had a private dispute at a card party. It is said that some hard words passed between them, and the English Minister hinted that he would
challenge his American associate, (James
Watson Webb.) The American Minister
immediately turned the tables by sending a challenge himself. The Englishman, as
soon as he received the challenge, went on board of the British storeship for protection, and remained on board up to the
time of the sailing of the Tallulah.
