The Home Arts Club enjoyed a talk on the Alaska Constitutional Convention by John McNees who is a member of that 55-member group which meets next month to draw up the constitution for the territory when it becomes a state.
McNees said that it would probably be the last constitutional convention ever to be held in the United States as Hawaii has already adopted its constitution.
New officers of the Home Arts Club were elected and include Mrs. Wm. Barber, president; Mrs. Fred Bockman, vice president; Mrs. Ben Goins, secretary; Mrs. Jack Woods, treasurer.
As part of next year's program the club pledged itself not only organized effort but individual effort in the educational and prevention phases of the tuberculosis work in this area. As the first step in this part of the program they are writing congressmen to take steps to make use of the ANS hospital in Anchorage and Seward by necessary appropriations as now much of these hospitals are idle and patients are being shipped to the Washington hospitals. Rehabilitation of these patients was also discussed.
The club went on record by letter, urging M. J. Walsh to accept the vacancy on the Constitutional Convention which was created by the death of Senator Howard Lyng and which has been offered to Mr. Walsh by Governor Heintzleman.
