CAMPERS
If you are thinking of going for
an outing to some of the adjacent
lakes or streams, take these hints
from Hi Henry.
Mr. Henry says: "If you are going
to Priest lake and want to fish in
the big pond, take the flies known
as the 'Parmachenee,' or the 'Queen of
the Waters': if you want to go to
one of the shady streams that feed
the lake, take the 'Midget fly,' the
'Coachman,' or the 'Black Gnat.'
"The rule for the class of fly need-
ed on the small streams varies little
in any part of Washington or ad-
acent resorts in Idaho. but at Lib-
erty lake or Coeur d'Alene the most
gratifying results come from deep
fishing and the best bait to attract
the black bass is the natural or arti-
ficial frog. but 'buck tail spinners
and large minnows bring good re-
sults.
"If the water is ruffled a little on
Priest lake by a breeze any kind of a
fly is good, as it is for catching perch
on Liberty lake. The disturbance on
the surface brings the fish up, or,
rather, raises them to the surface.
"With all my experience in fishing,"
continued Mr. Henry, "I learned
something new on my recent trip to
Priest lake. I was on the little stream
connecting the big and the little lakes
when I noticed a school of trout
jumping up for stray members of a
swarm of May flies. I had an imi-
tation May fly that was simply per-
fect. yet those trout passed it up for
a 'Parmachenee.' The fluttering of
the wings of the natural fly seemed
to be the attraction for the speckled
fellows that I was after."
