Disgusting Toadyism,
Americans have often proved the fact that in whatever they undertake, they can beat the world. And here is a case of disgusting toadyism, that stands alone, without a parallel in the history of any other nation. After the Russian Prince had finished his dinner in this city, on Friday, and left the dining hall, one of the ladies present made a rush for the tables, and demanded to know where the Grand Duke sat? The chair was pointed out to her, and she occupied it. She asked to see the waiter who had attended to the wants of the imperial young man? The colored boy appeared, and awaited her orders. She asked him if he remembered what the Prince had eaten? He told her as near as he could recollect, and she wanted the same. She even wanted the same dishes that the Prince had used, and when told that they had not been washed, she was delighted, and insisted on eating from them just as he left them. She eagerly seized some broken bits of cake that Alexis had left, and they rejoiced her exceedingly. She passed them around to the ladies who had taken seats at the table, and each one took a small pinch of cake.
