Revival Center Is Refused Permit To Construct Addition
The Mayor and Town Council, in regular session on Monday evening denied the application for a permit from the Oakland Revival Center, Leroy Harvey, minister, to construct an addition to the present structure on Second street, south of Oak, in the town of Oakland.
The application was before the council last month but was tabled. Since then the council received a petition signed by fourteen people in that area, setting out the reasons for urging that the application be refused.
The petition said that the "conduct was noisy, loud, boisterous and generally unbecoming a quiet residential neighborhood, sometimes as many as four nights a week;" that "during meetings conduct creates disturbance among whole neighborhood, so regular as to constitute a nuisance." that "no toilet facilities were available and persons use the grounds in rear of the building for toilet purposes, creating health problem and a disgrace to the neighborhood;" and that the "enlargement would only add to the problem already in existence."
A letter was dispatched to Mr. Harvey, telling of the council's actions.
