"On appelle un poète un poète."

VER. TALES.

"Then shun the Muses and forbear to rhyme."
H. S. P.

ONE of the nine, no matter who,
From Helicon once stray'd;
Though only whisper'd, 'tis too true,
She ne'er return'd a maid.
Her pregnancy proclaim'd th'offence,
For which Apollo drove her thence.
The banish'd Muse, with weary feet;
Wander'd from place to place;
Hoping to find a safe retreat,
Stranger to her disgrace.
At length across th' Atlantick sea
To A--k she wing'd her way.
The infant Muse (cause of her woes
Whom she had left behind her,
Thro' a mistake, to Chellowe goes,)
In hopes Mamma to find there.
Much press'd to stay, before made mellow
The girl agreed to live at Chellowe.
Dan Hi-tt here, and Dir B.
The exil'd Muse employ,
Dan B-g there; too much doth wark,
The bastard Muse his joy.
