Surveying for Tracks on Side Hills to Handle Ores.
Says the Park Record: J. J. Daly came out from Salt Lake yesterday and was met here by B. F. Howse of Denver, civil engineer of the Union Pacific. The route of the spur from the depot to the Ontario and Daly-West drain tunnel, which will be used to convey Daly-West and Ontario ores, was gone over. Surveys are now being made and if the route is practicable, the U. P. will commence at once to grade and lay track, and the work will be pushed to completion. Superintendent Daly proposes to handle the Daly-West ores without hauling it in wagons, and if it is proved that the present plan is not feasible, a tramway system will be inaugurated. Mr. Daly, however, is satisfied that a grade can be established on which U. P. trains can be operated. It will appear rather odd to see railroad trains running on our side hills, but it will stand as a monument of progressiveness to the Daly-West and Ontario managements.
