FROM THE NEW-YORK MERCANTILE ADVERTISER.

Messrs. Editors.—Some well disposed friend of mine had the following inserted in your paper of yesterday morning:

"Died.—Yesterday afternoon, Mr. Dennis C. Daly, aged 32 years.—His friends and those of John L. Dillon, are particularly invited to attend his funeral this afternoon, at 5 o'clock, this afternoon, from the corner of North Moore and Greenwich-Street."

I do not suppose that my life or death is of any importance to the public. I cannot, however, help thinking that this proceeding must have been dictated by a very contemptible species of malice. I am not dead; but still live to tell some truths which may make my enemies blush—truths which were prudently and cautiously suppressed by the very humble and ample apology, which appeared in the Mercantile Advertiser of the 10th ultimo.—

God forbid that I should be the first to open wounds; which I hope are completely closed—God forbid that I should plant a thorn in that virtuous heart, which, in despite of malice and opposition, gave me its unlooked for affections.

But I must say that this rancorous falsehood corresponds with the rest of the conduct of its authors. The object which they vainly hope to effect by it, is paltry, as it is evident. And I now give them notice, that if they do not refrain from such proceedings, my usual forbearance, and charity and generosity, will not protect them from an exposure, which they must have sense enough to dread.

DENNIS C. DALY.
